1958 Frank Umont Umpire MLB World Series Championship ring
Frank William Umont (November 21, 1917 - June 20, 1991) was an umpire in the American League of Major League Baseball from 1954 to 1973. He was the first major league umpire to wear spectacles while officiating. Frank Umont was a former guard for the New York (football) Giants in the 1940’s, who became a major league umpire, and was the first up to wear glasses to call a game. Can you imagine the taunts he received? The ring was presented to Umont after the New York Yankees thrilling seven game series win over the Milwaukee Braves. It features a CZ diamond on top with “1958 World Series Umpire” around the perimeter. One shank has the team “NEW YORK YANKEES” while the other has “MILWAUKEE BRAVES”.
